# Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is overload of the thick band under the sole; it causes heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning.

## What it is

Overload of the [plantar fascia](https://durgical.com/en/anatomy/plantar-aponeurosis/) causing heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning.

## Symptoms and signs

- Sharp heel pain with first steps after rest
- Pain that improves with activity then returns

## Diagnosis

**Clinical**
Point tenderness at the medial calcaneal tubercle

**Imaging**
Ultrasound or X-ray if the diagnosis is uncertain

## Treatment

**Rehabilitation**
Stretching, load management, and physical therapy.

**Conservative**
Supportive footwear or orthoses.
