# Colombia's PAI schedule (which vaccines, at what age)

- Topic

Colombia's Expanded Programme on Immunization (PAI) gives free vaccines from birth. This page sums up what each age is protected against, per the Ministry.

Updated 2026-11-01

## Key points

- At birth: BCG and hepatitis B.
- 2026 primary infant series: 1.5, 3 and 4.5 months (earlier than the classic 2, 4 and 6 months).
- 12 months: MMR, varicella, pneumococcus and hepatitis A; yellow fever at 9 months in the 2026 schedule.
- HPV for girls and boys aged 9 to 17.
- Every pregnancy: diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis from week 20, and RSV between weeks 28 and 36.

## What it is

The PAI is the Ministry of Health and Social Protection programme that sets, buys and distributes the national schedule vaccines. In 2025 and 2026 the childhood schedule moved ages and intervals earlier to protect sooner, after outbreaks of yellow fever, measles and pertussis in Colombia and neighbouring countries. The table sums up the ages and what each visit prevents according to the Ministry's pages; it gives no amounts and does not replace the official current schedule.

## Key facts

- From 2026 the influenza vaccine covers children from 6 months to 5 years.
- Very low birth weight preterm infants born from 1 April 2025 receive an acellular hexavalent vaccine.
- The measles «Zero Dose» brings protection forward to infants aged 6 to 11 months while outbreaks are a risk.
- Women aged 10 to 49 also have a diphtheria-tetanus vaccine in the PAI, which prevents neonatal tetanus.
- A late schedule is completed, not restarted.

## PAI schedule (Ministry of Health, checked 2026-11-01). The childhood page lists the diseases prevented; the matching vaccine is in brackets where the name is unambiguous.

| Age or group | Vaccines (diseases they prevent) |
| --- | --- |
| At birth | Tuberculous meningitis (BCG) and hepatitis B |
| 1.5 months and 3 months | Diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, Haemophilus influenzae type b, hepatitis B and polio; rotavirus; pneumococcus (pneumonia, otitis, meningitis, bacteremia) |
| 4.5 months | Diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, Haemophilus influenzae type b, hepatitis B and polio |
| 6 and 7 months | Seasonal influenza (6 months to 5 years); measles «Zero Dose» to protect from 6 to 11 months |
| 9 months | Yellow fever (mandatory from 9 months to 19 years for anyone living in or travelling through Colombia, per the page) |
| 12 months | Measles, rubella and mumps (MMR); varicella; pneumococcus; hepatitis A |
| 18 months | Diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, Haemophilus influenzae type b, hepatitis B and polio; measles, rubella and mumps |
| 5 years | Diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and polio; varicella |
| 9 to 17 years (girls and boys) | Human papillomavirus (HPV) |
| Pregnant women | COVID-19 from week 12 (if criteria met); influenza from week 14; diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis from week 20 of every pregnancy; respiratory syncytial virus between weeks 28 and 36 |
| 60 years and older | Influenza every year; yellow fever if living in or travelling through risk areas, after assessment |

## Memory aid

Born with a shield: BCG and hepatitis B meet the baby in the delivery room; the rest arrive every month and a half.
