Brachial nodes !
The brachial nodes are a few tiny, inconstant deep nodes along the main vessels of the arm; they filter deep lymph from the forearm and arm.
Opens in the Durgical app, no sign-up needed.
What it is
A few small deep nodes along the brachial artery and veins in the arm.
What it does
Filter deep lymph of the forearm and arm and pass it up to the lateral axillary nodes.
Key facts
- Where
- Along the brachial artery and veins in the arm
- Drains
- Deep lymph of the forearm and arm
- Into
- Lateral axillary nodes
Relations
- Course
- Scattered along the brachial vessels in the groove medial to the biceps, between the elbow and the axilla
- Lateral
- The brachial artery with its companion veins and the median nerve
- Superficial
- Deep fascia of the arm, which the basilic vein pierces near mid-arm
- Deep
- Brachialis and, higher up, the medial intermuscular septum and the medial head of the triceps
How to find it
Not palpable in health. They lie under the deep fascia in the groove medial to the biceps, next to the brachial vessels, and may show on ultrasound when enlarged.
Clinical notes
- Rarely enlarged on their own; a lump in the medial arm is more often a supratrochlear node, a vascular lesion or a soft-tissue tumour
- A biopsy here works close to the brachial artery and the median and ulnar nerves
- Deep infections of the hand and forearm usually show first as tender lateral axillary nodes, since much deep lymph reaches the axilla without stopping

Think of the answer, then tap the question to see it.
Where do the brachial lymph nodes lie?
Along the brachial artery and veins in the groove medial to the biceps, under the deep fascia.
Into which nodes do the brachial nodes drain?
Into the lateral axillary nodes, along the brachial and axillary veins.
Which lymph vessels of the upper limb are more numerous, superficial or deep?
The superficial ones; the deep vessels are fewer and follow the main arteries.
